At last, dengan segala penat jerih. Dengan segala titik peluh, bersengkang mata. Target is reached :)

My last bottle that completes the set

The whole set

I've started pumping on the 19th June 2010 and what started as 1.5 oz of milk has now reached 350 oz packed into 100 storage bags with about 3.5 oz each. My freezer box is now full and I have stopped pumping for nearly 5 days now! I know I shouldn't stop but I'm running out of storage space already. Earlier, I was contemplating on getting a separate chest freezer to store the milk. From what I read, the milk can last up to 6 months in a deep freezer. That sounds so good!! However, we hit our first snag with EBM. Apparently, Hariz is not too fond of them. For the last 2.5 months, I occasionally give Hariz the taste of EBM from the bottle just to prepare him for nursery. He had had 5 bottles given to him so far - 3 bottles were freshly expressed and stored in the fridge and the remaining 2 came from the freezer (thawed and warm). Each time, he struggled to latch on to the bottle. When he did, he didn't complain much when the milk is freshly expressed and would quietly down them all. However, he refused to drink the milk that came from the freezer. One bottle was filled with a month old milk and has a distinct vinegar-like smell while the other was only 5 days old but has a yellow oily substance forming the top layer (I think this is fat). He refused to drink both. He would play and roll the teat around his mouth and pushed it out with his tongue. I'm perplexed!

I hope this preference is only temporary and will short lived once he is sent to the daycare. I did a little experiment to determine when exactly the lipase enzyme starts to break down the milk by placing a small amount in the fridge. It took about 6 days for the sour smell to form. Ok! If worse comes to worst, I probably have to provide only freshly expressed milk to the daycare. But what am I to do with 350 oz breast milk in my freezer?
